FAQ (Body Cream)

What’s the difference between this cream and your Original Tallow Balm?

The Tallow Body Cream is soft, smooth, and easy to spread - a true moisturiser for daily, full-body use. It has a light texture, a gentle velvety scent, and absorbs quickly, leaving skin hydrated without greasiness.

The Original Tallow & Honey Balm is richer, denser, and designed more like a healing salve. It contains raw honey and olive oil, making it ideal for barrier repair, dry patches, and sensitive skin. It has a more waxy, occlusive finish.

Use the cream for everyday moisture.

Use the balm when your skin needs protection, calm, or deeper repair.

Can I use the cream on my face?

Yes - the ingredients are non-comedogenic and suitable for most facial skin types. If your skin tends to be oily or reactive, start with a small amount and apply to damp skin. It’s especially lovely on dry, mature, or wind-exposed skin.

Is it suitable for sensitive or reactive skin?

Generally, yes. The base (tallow, jojoba, beeswax) is very gentle and well tolerated. However, the essential oil blend may be too much for ultra-sensitive users or those with fragrance sensitivities. For a scent-free option, try the Unscented Tallow Body Cream.

Will it leave my skin greasy?

No - this cream was made to feel light and breathable. It absorbs fully when used sparingly and massaged into damp or dry skin. There are no synthetic fillers, so you don’t need much.

What does it smell like?

It’s lightly scented with a natural blend of lavender, vanilla, jasmine and orris essential oils. It’s warm, powdery, and subtle - never overpowering. Just enough to make the experience feel special.

Can I use the balm and the cream together?

Yes - and many of our customers do. Use the cream as your daily go-to moisturiser, and the balm as a protective layer when your skin feels dry, cracked, or irritated. They layer well and serve different needs.

How long will a jar last?

A little goes a long way. With daily use, a 120ml jar typically lasts 1–3 months. Because there’s no water or fillers, each ingredient directly supports your skin.

Will it melt in hot weather?

It’s stable for most climates thanks to the beeswax, but like any tallow-based product, it may soften in heat. If it feels too soft, simply let it rest at room temperature or refrigerate briefly.

Is this product handmade?

Yes. Every jar is handcrafted in small batches using traditional methods. No outsourcing, no shortcuts - just simple, ancestral ingredients blended with care.

I can’t use essential oils, what do I do?

That’s ok! We also have an Unscented Tallow Body Cream. It's the same but without any essential oils so it's perfect for anyone with sensitivity to essential oils.

How does Ancestral Cosmetics Tallow Deodorant work?

Our deodorant works by neutralising bacteria that are the main cause of body odour. Gentle ingredients like magnesium hydroxide and non-nano zinc oxide neutralise bacteria that are causing body odour and ingredients like arrowroot powder help to absorb the sweat instead of stopping the body from sweating.

Does Tallow Deodorant contain aluminium?

No, tallow deodorant doesn’t contain aluminium. It also doesn’t contain any parabens, preservatives, triclosan, artificial fragrances, refined seed oils or petroleum-based ingredients.

Is Tallow Deodorant an antiperspirant?

No, Tallow Deodorant is NOT an antiperspirant. Antiperspirants usually contain aluminium that completely prevents the sweat, blocking the pores and trapping the sweat (and toxins) in your body.

This prevents the natural detoxification process and can cause health issues. Tallow deodorant neutralises odour-causing bacteria and helps to absorb sweat, keeping you smelling good while not disrupting the body's natural detoxification processes.

I am still sweating while using deodorant, is this normal?

Yes, sweating is a normal and healthy way for our body to detoxify itself and it shouldn’t be prevented. Our deodorant won’t stop you from sweating but active ingredients inside will help to absorb the sweat keeping you dry most of the time.

How often can I apply my deodorant?

We recommend 2-3 gentle swipes 1-2 times per day but if you want drier pits, you can reapply it every 3-4 hours.

Does tallow deodorant contain baking soda?

No, our tallow deodorant doesn’t contain baking soda.

Do you use perfume (fragrance) in your formula?

No, we don’t use perfume or fragrance oils in our deodorant. Our scented deodorants are made with a blend of 100% pure essential oils and our unscented deodorant is essential oil free.

I am sensitive to essential oils, what deodorant should I choose?

Our Unscented Deodorant has been created for people sensitive to essential oils or looking for a neutral scent in their deodorant.

How to apply tallow deodorant?

Hold to pit to soften for 5-10 seconds.
Swipe down 2-3 times.
Smell great.

How long will one deodorant last?

One deodorant tube should last between 2-3 months depending on the use.

My deodorant is too hard, what do I do?

Our deodorant is made from only natural ingredients and as such can be more susceptible to temperature changes. To soften it, hold it on the pits for 5 seconds or longer if needed.

Is this deodorant going to stain my clothes?

Our deodorant won’t stain clothes if applied correctly. We recommend applying 2-3 swipes and storing it at room temperature.

Why are you using plastic packaging instead of cardboard for your deodorant?

While cardboard deodorant tubes are being touted as a sustainable alternative they come with some significant drawbacks.

I absolutely love the smell and the texture of the body cream, but it lasted me 17 days and it was gone...i have used it every night. I wish I could afford to get 2 a month but my bank says no🤭

I will advise you to use it at night and not when is hot, it will get too greasy. My skin definitely looks better and more hydrated.

Now the deodorant....when is hot is really easy to apply,but when is hardening, is not so easy to apply. You can keep it under your armpit for a minute or so to "melt", but that didn't worked for me so I just pass a lighter a few times on the top and is ready to use.
